What is the FirstLine Therapy® Therapeutic Lifestyle Program?
First Line Therapy® (FLT) is a clinically-proven, structured but user-friendly, 12 week program for men and women that can be customized to fit your unique needs and preferences. Our First Line Therapy® practitioner will work intensively with you to develop a prescription for nutrition and activity based on your current health status and goals.
Many of us know just from common sense what leading researchers are proving in studies; that many of the health disorders we see today result from improper nutrition and a sedentary, high-stress lifestyle. But if you've had a hard time knowing where to begin and what principles are important to follow, FLT was developed with you in mind.
FLT is perfect for healthy people who believe in doing what they can to reduce their risk factors for chronic illnesses, it is also is helpful for people who have already developed a lifestyle-related or other health problem and want to do all they can to help themselves. It’s a simple, do-able program that’s been tested in the real world with people just like you. Click here to view two FLT case studies from True North’s program participants. We've offered FLT for over two years and it has far exceeded our expectations (which were high to begin with!)

How does it work?
FirstLine Therapy® combines a customized lifestyle prescription for healthy nutrition, activity, and stress reduction with nine weekly programs for education and support.
- The program includes a series of three private consultations with Susan Fekety, MSN, CNM, our advanced practice nurse/lifestyle counselor to get you started and monitor your progress.
- Your first visit will be approximately an hour long, and at that time you and Susan will work together to develop a program that fits your specific health needs. You’ll have a cutting-edge health assessment called “Bioimpedance Analysis”, or “BIA” for short. This painless full-body measurement of your lean and fat body mass will be used in developing your food and movement programs, and will be repeated at 6 and 12 weeks so you can track your progress.
- We also encourage you to have some baseline bloodwork (like cholesterol and blood sugar) done if you have not had it recently or if we identify special risk factors for you.
- Program participants need to be referred by their True North clinician or approved for the program by their primary care provider.
The nutrition program you’ll get is detailed and specific while still leaving you lots of room for choices. This is not a starvation diet - you will be eating quite a bit of food! You’ll get a book full of information, recipes, progress-recording sheets, and helpful ideas to take home with you in addition to your test results. You can start your program right away!
After your initial consultation, you’ll be invited to attend weekly meetings in our Living Room – on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30-7:30 pm. Each session is part educational, and part group support. This type of structure really helps people make and sustain personal changes. Each evening session is different, and you don’t need to start with any particular one – just come to the next one that’s convenient for you! (If you are not able to attend the evening sessions there are other options that will work better for you for between visits.)

How much does it cost
and will my insurance cover FLT?
Your initial, 6-week and 12 week consultations, 3 BIA tests, guide book and other printed materials, and the evening group meetings are all included in the program price of $600.00, which is pre-paid when you make your first appointment. Additional consultation visits and/or BIA tests (should you wish to have them) can be arranged for an additional fee. Lab tests and food supplements, which are optional, will be charged to you individually, also in addition to the basic package fee. You must complete the program within 6 months of purchasing it, or you’ll forfeit your fee and need to start over.
With a provider prescription, the program, or some of its component parts, may be reimbursable through your health insurance or Medical Savings Account/Flexible Spending Account. Patients report success in getting FLT covered by insurance, but be sure to call your insurance company for more information on what your plan will and will not cover. We'll provide a coded receipt for you to submit to your insurer when you complete the program. Click here for more information on FLT and insurance.
