Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary health care. It is an art, science, philosophy, and practice of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illness. Naturopathic medicine is distinguished from other healing traditions by the principles which underlie and inform its practice:
- The Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)
- Identify and Treat the Causes (Tolle Causam)
- First Do No Harm (Primum Non Nocere)
- Doctor as Teacher (Docere)
- Treat the Whole Person
- Prevention
These principles are based upon the objective observation of the nature of health and disease, and are continually reexamined in the light of scientific advances. The methods used are consistent with these principles and are chosen upon the basis of patient individuality. Naturopathic medicine emphasizes the promotion of health, prevention of disease, patient education, and individual responsibility.
The Naturopath strives to help the patient to obtain a state of complete physical, mental and social well social well-being. The Naturopathic doctor is the facilitator, while the patient is the true healer.
In addition to training in Naturopathic Medicine, our Naturopath, Peter Knight, ND has also received additional training in Functional Medicine and the Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) protocols for treating autism.
